Church information
There has been a church in South Pool for at least 700 years, documents from the time tell us that it was consecrated by Bishop Stapleton on the 24th August 1318. It was rebuilt in the 1400’s and later additions were also made in the 1500’s. A set of 6 bells were cast in 1762 by famous West Country Pennington family foundry. Today, 5 of these bells still survive- so it’s still possible to hear the same bells that villagers heard around 240 years ago!
The carved font is made of red sandstone and dates to the 1100’s; it is of interest as it probably came from a very early version of the church.
Services
